Solo Trip
Date: July 27 - 29, 2023
Thursday: I drove over early Thursday morning. Stopped at Chiriaco Summit for preserves and salsa. The traffic in the cities around Los Angeles was choked. I stopped by Bob Marriott's and bought a few flies and supplies that I've been needing. Drove to the hotel, checked in and by this time it was late afternoon. I walked over to the beach and scoped it out getting my bearings how I was going to start before first light. Back at the hotel, checking social media, I found an art exhibit of my favorite painter. Dinner in the room with drinks and set the alarm.
Friday: Before light, at the beach, rigging up using my flashlight. Waiting for the sunrise. First few casts, I caught a small surf perch that shaked off at my feet. I did not see beds of sand crabs. Surf was 1-2' and wind was less than 5 mph. I fished for a few hours. I saw no Corbina, evidence of surf perch, nothing else. Back at the hotel, I got cleaned up and bought tickets to the exhibit. I mapped out my trip.
I drove to Los Angeles and checked out the exhibit. Drove to Canter's Deli and lunched. Drove back to the hotel, drinks and out to dinner at the Himalayan for Indian cuisine. Back to the hotel.
Saturday: Before light at the beach, waves were up, 2-3' and a little more wind. I cast for a couple of hours taking pictures of dolphins working outside of the break. Back to the hotel, cleaned up, loaded the car and drove home stopping at Chiriaco Summit for breakfast. I got home at 2p.
