the Corbina Diaries
by Al Quattrocchi
I have been fly fishing the salt for about 25 years or more. When I started, I was walking the beach and flats of the Sea of Cortez hunting bone fish but catching whatever I could. I found that I personally enjoyed hunting the Yellowfin Croaker because they reminded me of a bird's shadow as I scared them. I knew I was doing well if I was catching YFC in the flats. I was reading back then about a few people catching Corbina from the beaches of California. Mexico was closer and I like the adventure there (at the time) so I had to read rather than going to the West Coast and finding out myself.
I'm older now, my passport has expired, and I like the California coastline and everything that goes with it so one of the first things I did was to start looking for books that targeted Corbina. Al Quattrocchi writes about the "Corbina Patrol" of those old days and the book is chock filled with the ins and outs of fishing for Corbina.
The book contains a lot about the lifestyle as well as the practical advice on what to look for and how to approach it. I really enjoy going back and reading many of the different sections. I've now caught my first Corbina and I'm well on my way to catch many more. Using this book for further information and planning has been key to my direction. I've even puchased another book from the suggestion of Corbina Diaries, Certainly More than you Want to Know About the Fishes of the Pacific Coast, A Post Modern Experience by Milton S. Love.
